Chapter Three
        General Education Curricula in
        the Community College Sector



        The following analysis is based on the GE courses offered by these four institutions in their AD
        programmes.

        (1)  GEILOs: CCCU and CIE
        Separate Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) are available for the GE programmes offered by
        CCCU and CIE while there are no specific ILOs for the GE programmes offered by HKCC and
        HKU SPACE CC.

        The GEILOs & CCCU are as follows:
        a.   Demonstrate a solid foundation of inquiry skills for life-long learning
        b.   Apply critical and creative thinking skills
        c.   Communicate coherently in written and spoken language
        d.   Apply quantitative reasoning/problem solving skills
        e.   Demonstrate capacity for ethical reasoning and responsible actions
        f.   Recognize the important characteristics of diverse peoples and cultures
        g.   Examine  the  major  regional  and  global  issues  and  relate  them  to  the  socio-political,
            cultural, economic and technological factors
        h.   Appreciate  the  impact  of  scientific  and  technological  development  on  society  and
            individuals

        The GEILOs & CIE are the same as those of the GE programme of HKBU proper:
        a.   Communicate effectively as speakers and writers in both English and Chinese
        b.   Access  and  manage  complex  information  and  problems  using  technologically
            appropriate means
        c.   Apply appropriate mathematical reasoning to address problems in everyday life
        d.   Acquire an active and healthy lifestyle
        e.   Use historical and cultural perspectives to gain insight into contemporary issues
        f.   Apply  various  value  systems  to  decision-making  in  personal,  professional,  and  social
            political situations
        g.   Make  connections  among  a  variety  of  disciplines  to  gain  insight  into  contemporary
            personal, professional, and community situations
