The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK)
The General Education programme is administered under an independent General Education
Office in EdUHK. Like many other universities, this office is not a teaching unit, but a supporting
unit to liaise with other academic units to prepare and offer GE courses for EdUHK students.
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU)
PolyU offers a range of General University Requirements (GUR) especially in Cluster Area
Requirements (CAR) and Service Learning (SL) subjects to all UGC-funded undergraduates at
the University, all of which are offered by different academic departments/units of PolyU.
The Office of General University Requirements (OGUR) of PolyU was established to facilitate
the smooth operation of the GUR in the four-year undergraduate degree programme and to
provide academic advising services on GUR to undergraduate students. The Office of Service-
Learning (OSL) of PolyU was established to plan and administer SL subjects and to promote
service learning and community engagement at PolyU and preparing students to become
civic-minded professionals with a desire to serve.
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)
In HKUST, the General Education programme is known as the Common Core Program (CCP).
While many universities may have an independent office administering their GE programmes,
the CCP in HKUST is managed by the Undergraduate Core Education (UCE) team of the
Academic Registry, an executive arm of the Committee on Undergraduate Core Education
(CUCE). Similar to other universities, it works closely with other academic units, particularly
with the School of Humanities and Social Science and the Center for the Arts, in developing
a comprehensive art program for the University and promoting arts activities that enrich the
artistic culture on campus.
The University of Hong Kong (HKU)
Similar to HKUST, the General Education programme at HKU is also known as Common Core
Curriculum. An independent office called Common Core Office is responsible for administering
Common Core courses in HKU by liaising with other academic units. Since it is a supporting
unit, it does not directly provide courses or have its own teaching staff.
