In Oakland University, the GE curriculum is divided into three stages – foundations, explorations
        and integration. Similarly to all other GE education, GE complements the major to increase
        the student’s flexibility and options upon graduation. Students are required to complete at
        least one approved course in each category listed below:

        (1)  Foundations
        i.   Writing prerequisites
        ii.   Writing foundations
        iii.  Formal reasoning
            The formal reasoning area prepares students to demonstrate knowledge of one or more
            formal reasoning systems such as
            •  computer programming,
            •  mathematics,
            •  statistics,
            •  linguistics or
            •  logic

        (2)  Explorations
        i.   Arts
        ii.   Foreign language and culture
        iii.  Global perspective
        iv.   Literature
        v.   Natural science and technology
        vi.  Social science
        vii.  Western civilization
