        v. Korea in the World (MOI: English)

It can be seen that, similarly to other universities in the world, the domain of understanding
Korea is included as part of the GE curriculum. Communication is also included in the
        foundation curriculum.

Students are required to complete 36 - 46 credits for fulfilling their GE education (out of 130 -
160 total credits). Interestingly, SNU allows students to make use some of the undergraduate
credits for awarding the master degree. This decision is made by the Dean of relevant college/
graduate school together with approval from the President after the evaluation of Graduate
School Academic Committee. According to the regulation, up to 6 credits are allowed to
transfer from the undergraduate study and these courses through which credits were earned
must be recorded in the University Registrar.

        The United States

The United States is believed to be the region with the best developed education policy
for sub-degree holders to articulate into a degree programme. Apart from admitting into
university for bachelor study through the regular route, US students may also be admitted into
different community colleges to pursue an associate degree. Although different states may
have a different policy towards degree articulation for associate degree holders, AD graduates
are still generally accepted across all of the states. In the following section, Oakland University
and West Chester University will be used as examples to study the above mentioned policy.

It is important to note that Oakland University has participated in the Michigan Transfer
Agreement (MTA) and Michigan Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers
(MACRAO) Articulation Agreement. The agreements allow associate degree students to satisfy
the university’s General Education requirements at a Michigan community college (with the
exception of a writing intensive course in the major and a capstone course). Universities in
this state do not need to recognize different AD programmes individually. The agreements also
allow AD students to transfer in a maximum of one-half the number of credits required for
completion of a bachelor degree program.
For bachelor degree students, additional credit may be transferred, although at least 32 credits
must be earned at Oakland University to fulfil the degree awarding requirement. The credit
transfer cases are administered by Undergraduate Admissions Office.
