General Education at Self-financing Institutions
(excluding affiliates of UGC-funded universities)
Student intake
In addition to Community Colleges affiliated with UGC-funded universities, there are a number
of independent institutions which offer degree programmes (see Table 1 for institutions with
significant number of intakes in 2015/16).

General Education Requirements for Four-year Degree Programmes
There is considerable variation in programme structure, even within the same institution.
In general, students in four-year degree programmes are required to complete a certain
number of GE courses, usually in their first and second year of study. A brief description of GE
programmes available is provided below.
(1) Structure of GE
CIHE
The number of credits varies for different majors. As an example, students of the 4-year BBA
degree programme have to take 132 credits, 18 to 27 of which are GE credits. Students have
to take five required GE courses, and two to five elective GE courses.
